SPSS is among the most widely used programs for statistical analysis in social science. In addition to statistical analysis, data management (case selection, file reshaping, creating derived data) and data documentation (a metadata dictionary is stored with the data) are features of the base software.

JMP

JMP is a computer program to perform simple and complex statistical analyses. It dynamically links statistics with graphics to interactively explore, understand, and visualize data. This allows you to click on any point in a graph, and see the corresponding data point highlighted in the data table, and other graphs.JMP provides a comprehensive set of statistical tools as well as design of experiments and statistical quality control in a single package. It can work with a variety of data formats, such as text files, Microsoft Excel files, SAS datasets, and ODBC-compliant databases.

Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package created in 1985 by StataCorp. It is used by many businesses and academic institutions around the world. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, and epidemiology.

SMARTDRAW

SmartDraw is a business graphics software developed by SmartDraw.com. SmartDraw is used to create business graphics such as flowcharts, organization charts, Gantt charts, timelines, mind maps, floor plans, and other diagrams. SmartDraw is also available in two industry-specific solutions: the SmartDraw Legal Edition and the SmartDraw Healthcare Edition.

Sigmaplot

SigmaPlot is a scientific graphing and data analysis software package that allows the creation of professional graphs. The software can read multiple formats (such as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets), and can also perform mathematical transforms and statistical analyses.

Qualtrics

Qualtrics offers the easiest user interface of all survey solutions. The entire system is based off of a point and click edit system that rivals the simplicity of drawing on a white board. Qualtrics is a secure online survey software that is available to faculty, students, and staff at the University of Kentucky. It allows you to design and deploy your survey completely online from any computer with an internet connection. It uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol to securely collect and deliver the data. This means that the person taking the survey can be sure that their information is safe and not going into the wrong hands and that person collecting the data can be sure that their data is safe also. There are many types of questions that you can use inside of Qualtrics, including: Single Response, Multiple Response, Numeric, Text, and Response Grids. You also have advanced capabilities like scripting and adding navigation to your survey.

There are many improvements in Qualtrics over MRInterview, some of which are:

• Triggers (send your self an email when someone completes your survey or answers a question a certain way)
• Grading
• Piping Text (put the answer to one question into the stem of another question)
• Polls (add a poll to your webpage and get the data in Qualtrics)
• Ease of formatting text, entering graphics, videos, etc.
• Speed of servers
• Randomized blocks of questions
• Many additional types of questions
• Better data results including some graphs, that can be exported into Word, pdf, etc.
• More ways to distribute your survey, including random pop-ups in webpages, embedding survey, and advanced sample management options

A concurrent license simply means that you will need to be connected to UK’s network to use MabLab.  If you are off network, then you can easily VPN into campus to use it.  The software will run locally on your machine, the connection is just to manage the license.
