Master of Science in Special Education:
Assistive Technology

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the Assistive Technology Master of Science (M. S.) Degree program, students will be able to:
  • Describe assistive technologies and their potential for meeting the needs of people with disabilities;
  • Assessemble, operate and maintain the components of assistive technology systems;
  • Evaluate assistive technologies for potential applications;
  • Conduct assistive technology assessments and serve as a leader of an assistive technology team;
  • Develop plans for the use of assistive technologies;
  • Use assistive technologies to facilitate instruction in special education programs;
  • Use assistive technologies to reduce barriers imposed by physical disabilities, communication disorders, or sensory impairments;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the use of assistive technologies;
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance concerning assistive technologies; and,
  • Conduct research related to assistive technologies and their use.
