MISSION: The
Center for Professional Development (CPD) is an integral part of
the University of Kentucky’s Institute
for Educational Research (IER). This close relationship allows
the CPD to leverage the IER’s most current research findings when
designing, developing, and delivering high-quality professional
development (PD) courses and programs. In fact, all PD content
accessed through the CPD is developed in collaboration with researchers
and skilled
practitioners. Additionally, all programmatic content offered through
the CPD is specifically designed to meet the Kentucky
Department of Education’s eleven standards for PD.
The CPD offers local
education authorities (LEA), schools, and individual educators
an expansive array of research-based instructional modules, programs,
workshops, and conferences through which they can earn continuing
education units (CEU) and Effective Instructional Leadership (EILA)
credits; however, local school policies will govern PD hours awarded
for participation in CPD courses. These standards-based PD activities
are designed to enhance the capacity of educators by improving
leadership, learning, assessment, and teaching skills.
Professional development
courses are scheduled on a regular basis and provide participants
with the flexibility to manage their individual learning schedules.
On-line and interactive program components are available on the
web 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are facilitated by knowledgeable
professionals. Information about specific courses and semester
schedules is available in the CPD Professional
Development Courses and Schedule. Information on seminars,
workshops, conferences, and institutes may be found in the Calendar
of Events. Additionally, the CPD can provide customized versions
of existing PD offerings
or create new content based on the needs of individual schools
or LEAs in the Commonwealth. Please contact the CPD for additional
information.
