Senate Academic Planning and Priorities Committee

Senate Council Charge 2011-2012

  1. Establish mechanism(s) for effective two-way communication with University faculty and staff to solicit opinions related to academic priorities and new ideas for plans to achieve academic goals.
  2. Proactively scan the University's internal and external environments/contexts - i.e., structural, bureaucratic, political, cultural, attitudinal, etc. - to identify strategic opportunities and threats.
  3. Identify a liaison to the Provost-run University Committee on Academic Planning and Priorities (UCAPP). This individual, as well as the SC Chair (who is an ex officio UCAPP member) should periodically provide updates to the SC and Senate.

Charter - Senate Rules 1.4.2.7

The Senate's Academic Planning and Priorities Committee shall:

  1. identify major academic problems likely to be faced by the University in the foreseeable future;

  2. formulate and recommend to the Senate plausible academic goals for the institution;

  3. develop procedures and criteria for recommending academic priorities;

  4. recommend to the Senate institutional policies that recognize academic priorities and goals, assess the progress of the institution toward its goals and report periodically to the Senate;

  5. recommend to the Senate a means for increasing the University's effectiveness in establishing and implementing its academic policies.

  6. serve the Senate and the administration as a source of faculty information and opinion concerning academic planning and priorities. [US: 4/10/89]
