Common Threads: Ecuadorian Artisan Shares Embroidery and Culture
Colorful embroidery designs traditionally reflect the cultural identity and craftsmanship from one
community to another in the Andes Mountains. Long before South America had a written language, textiles preserved and communicated stories, cosmologies and other important cultural information from one generation to the next. Through grants from Kentucky-Ecuador Partners, artisan Imelda Inuca visited Kentucky to share the embroidery work practiced by the Quichua women in Northern Ecuador.
