Bath County had an estimated population of 10,347 (4,307 households) in 1999; projected population in 2020 is 10,853 (4,872 households). Public water is provided to 3,625 customers, or about 80 percent of the county's residents. In areas not served by public water, about 56 percent of the households use wells and 44 percent use other sources. About 67 customers will be provided public water service through new line extensions by 2020. If all proposed water-line extensions are made, about 19 percent of the county will still rely on private water supplies in 2020. The Water Resource Development Commission has prepared a report on water-supply infrastructure in the county. It is estimated that there are over 200,000 water wells in Kentucky.
