Water Use

Pike County had an estimated population of 72,000 (27,827 households) in 1999. Some 13,000 households (approximately 47 percent) were served by public water. The remainder relied primarily on wells. The population of Pike County is projected to be 70,400 (30,300 households) in the year 2020. Proposed water line extensions from 2000 to 2020 will serve another 9,200 households. If all proposed water line extensions are made, about 23 percent of the county will still rely on wells in the year 2020.

The Water Resource Development Commission has prepared a report on water-supply infrastructure in the county.
