Calloway county was formed in 1823. It is located in the Jackson Purchase region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 359 to 640 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 37,191 in a land area of 385.02 square miles, an average of 96.6 people per square mile.

The county seat is Murray.
