Mayfield, Kentucky

Mayfield is the seat of Graves county. It was settled about 1819 and was named for Mayfield Creek, which was possibly named for George Mayfield, a settler who was killed there. Mayfield is located near the center of the county at the junction of the Purchase Parkway, US 45, and KY 80. The post office opened in 1823. The population in 1990 was 9,935.
