ART OF THE CHILDREN OF HAITI

In the Little Fine Arts Library's central display case, we are featuring a very special exhibit of the Art of the Children of Haiti. Lauren Buswell, a UK Art Education student, spent last spring break and her summer vacation working with children of the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Carrefour, Haiti. She returned with pictures of the orphanage, the children and samples of their vibrant artwork. See more about the orphanage at its website.

The Good Shepherd Orphanage was damaged beyond repair by Haiti’s devastating earthquake, but the 60 children of the orphanage were spared. They are living out in the open on the grounds of the school awaiting help. Lauren and students from the UK Wesley Foundation, including head resident and UK civil engineering student Chrispin Gabriel, are planning to travel to Haiti for spring break 2010 to work on rebuilding the orphanage.
