Welcome
Are you interested in jumpstarting your digitization program?
Do you feel you need help in selecting material to digitize?
Do you feel unprepared to write an RFP?
Do you have content on microfilm that you would like to digitize?
Interested in digitizing newspapers and need to know what it entails?
Would you like to see what assistance vendors have to offer you?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us September 24th and 25th, 2008 at the University of Kentucky for “meta | morphosis: a university of kentucky film-to-digital institute”
The experienced Preservation and Digital Programs group at the University of Kentucky Libraries has organized an intensive two-day workshop to help institutions interested in transforming content from microfilm into digital objects.
Learn how to…
… determine when digitizing from microfilm is the best solution for you
… evaluate microfilm and determine if it is appropriate for digitization
… strategically select content
… decide whether to do the project in-house or to outsource it
… make good images
… write an RFP
… select a vendor
… explore partnerships to your advantage
… seek appropriate funding
Come join us and let us extend our Kentucky hospitality to you while we teach you some of what we know about these issues. You will have a chance to meet the key vendors working in this area and we will all have an opportunity to explore the big picture issues of preservation, partnerships, and content conversion together.
Comments from last year’s participants…
“This was exactly what I needed to figure out what needs to happen with
our project!” and “Thank you for a well-organized, highly
informative two days! The size of the group was perfect for interaction.”
Registration is limited so that we can provide an excellent learning experience for everyone. The institute filled early last year, so register right away if you want to participate!
We hope to see you soon in Kentucky!
Check out the meta|morphosis blog for updates on the institute and for a continuing discussion on film-to-digital issues.
