A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince shortly before 5 p.m. on January 12th. The Red Cross estimates one-third of the country was affected. The Office of International Affairs and the Counseling & Testing Center are offering their support and assistance to anyone who may need it. UK students and the Lexington community are already looking for ways to help. To learn more from the U.S. State Department, visit http://www.state.gov/p/wha/ci/ha/index.htm.
There may be some students, staff, and faculty on campus who have friends and family in the region affected by earthquake in Haiti. Also, some people may be disturbed by the images of the region that are being shown in the media. If at any time, as members of the campus community, you or someone you know is feeling depressed, anxious or disturbed by the images they've seen of the disaster area: know that you can call or walk in to the University Counseling & Testing Center to use our services or be provided with referral resources.
