Help for you or a friend

If you or someone you care about has been directly impacted by power based personal violence, we are here to provide you with support. A VIP staff person is available to talk with you Monday – Friday 8:30 - 5:00 pm. You can stop by VIP Center in the basement of Frazee Hall, or call us at (859) 257-3574, and you don’t need to have an appointment! VIP is a space for support and connection in whatever way you find most helpful, we are here to listen, to hear your truth and help you navigate options.

Support can look many ways including: Help maintaining your school work; we can work with you and your professors…we have access to different housing options…we can connect you to health resources…we can work together to deal with financial issues connected to power based personal violence…we can support you through legal options; talking with law enforcement, following up on the status of cases, even going to court with you…if you want to talk with someone on a deeper level we can connect you with a counselor… you can also plug in to the many programs at VIP; writing group, theater performance, art projects, Green Dot training, and volunteer programs. We have many resources throughout our community and together we can access those that you find most helpful. Please know we are here for you

The VIP Center office hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm. To speak to someone by phone during these hours, call 859-257-3574. To speak to someone in person between 8:30 and 5:30pm, come by the Center located on the lower level of Frazee Hall next to the student center.For 24-hour assistance after hours contact the local Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center at 859-253-2511 or reach them at 800-656-HOPE‚ the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program at 800-544-2022‚ or the UK Police at 911 or #UKPD.

Information and Resources

Addressing power-based personal violence is a collective effort and responsibility that is shared by every unit and individual on campus in addition to community partners off campus. To the side are links to on-campus units, off-campus organizations, and national resources that you many find helpful. If you would like help in navigating these organizations, or information on key contact people that work closely with VIP, don’t hesitate to call at 859-257-3574.

Daily Dot
  • I talked to my friends about the SEEDS retreat I went to.
  • We created a fundraiser for the VIP Center.
  • I check in with my friends before we go out. Someone is always designated sober for the night. We stay together, we leave together.
  • I have gone to Take Back the Night 3 years in a row.
  • I put my green dot button on my bag.
  • I brought my friend to VIP to volunteer.
  • I heard my neighbors get into a verbal argument, I checked in to make sure everything was okay.

  • I created a SEEDS event on Facebook to invite all my friends to come.
  • I got my fraternity brothers to attend SEEDS.
  • I participated in In Our Own Voices, a play that raises awareness about violence
  • I told the bartender about someone who I saw slip something in someone’s drink.
  • I was there for my friend when she told me she had been assaulted.
  • I volunteer at the VIP center a couple hours a week.
  • I told my story at Take Back the Night.
  • I participated in the Umbrella Walk.
  • I did my English paper over power based personal violence.
  • We did a group presentation on VIP.
  • I wore my green dot button, and someone asked me about it.
  • A couple was arguing loudly in a restaurant, and I told the manager.
  • My friends now know not to make sexist jokes around me.
  • When a news article comes out relating to violence, I discuss it with my friends.
