UK Wireless Options
The University of Kentucky provides wireless networking for both guests, and registered users within the University. The guest wireless network, 'ukyedu', is intended for public guest access. The registered network 'ukyedu-secure' is available for Students, Staff, and Faculty within UK.
Beginning April 2012, the guest wireless network 'ukyedu' will be restricted to allow only web browser connections (http, https) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) sessions. Students, staff, and Faculty with link blue accounts may use the 'ukyedu-secure' wireless network which does not have these restrictions. These changes are being made in order to better protect UK's resources.
How to connect:
Select the wireless network 'ukyedu-secure' or 'ukyedu' from the list of available wireless networks on your device.
Instructions for ukyedu-secure:
The 'ukyedu-secure' wireless network requires additional steps to be completed in order to successfully connect.
- If prompted for a pass-key, type in the shared key of "ukyedusecure" all one word and lower case (note the quotation marks are not entered).
- Open a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer and attempt to connect to a web page. You will be redirected to the login page where you need to enter your link blue username and password to proceed.
Note: Users familiar with the legacy wireless network on UK.s Campus should know that you are no longer required to register wireless devices. That system has gone away.
