Configuring Wireless Card
Install drivers
To install the drivers for your wireless access card, follow the directions in the user or installation guide that comes with your wireless access card or check the manufacturer's web site to install the drivers for your particular wireless access card and operating system. Use all of the default selections when installing the drivers for your wireless access card.
Install client utility
To install the client utility for your wireless access card, follow the directions in the user or installation guide that come with your wireless access card or check the manufacturer's web site.
Configure card
Cisco Aironet 350
- Launch the Aironet Client Utility.
- Under the Commands menu, open Edit Properties.
- Select the Systems Parameters tab.
- Type in the SSID: ukyedu.
- Set the Network Type to Infrastructure.
- Select the RF Network tab.
- Set the Data Rate to Auto Rate Selection.
- Select the Network Security tab.
- Check the Allow Association To Mixed Cells box.
- Make sure the Enable WEP box is unchecked.
- Press the OK button.
- Close the Client Utility.

Lucent/Orinoco (Gold Card)
- Launch the ORiNOCO Client Manager.
- Under the Action menu, open Add/Edit Configuration Profile.
- Press the Edit button.
- Type in the Profile Name: default.
- Set the Network Type to Access Point.
- Press the Next button.
- Type in the Network Name: ukyedu.
- Press the Next button.
- Make sure the Data Security is off.
- Press the Next button.
- Leave the Power Management off.
- Press the Next button.
- Leave the TCP/IP Behavior unchecked.
- Press the Finish button.
- Close the client manager.
LINKSYS WPC11
- Launch the Configuration Utility.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Set the Mode to Infrastructure.
- Type in the SSID: ukyedu.
- Set the Tx Rate to Fully Automatic.
- Set the PS Mode to Disabled.
- Select the Encryption tab.
- Set the Encryption (WEP) to Disabled.
- Press the OK button.
Install TCP/IP protocol
Windows 95/98/ME
- Right-Click on the Network Neighborhood icon then click Properties.
- Make sure the Network window includes:
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- A Wireless Network Card
- TCP/IP > Wireless Network Card
- The Primary Network Logon: should read Windows Logon.
- Double-click the TCP/IP > Wireless Network Card.
- Make sure the mark is on Obtain an IP address automatically in the IP Address tab.
- Click the Bindings tab & make sure a check mark is next to Client for Microsoft Networks.
- Click OK to close the Internet Protocol or TCP/IP Properties window.
- Click OK to close the Network Properties window.
Macintosh
- Click on Apple_Control Panels and TCP/IP.
- Change Connect via: Wireless WAN adapter.
- Change the Setup option to Configure: Using DHCP Server.
- TYPE Search domains: uky.edu.
- Click the top left square to close the TCP/IP window.
- Click SAVE, when you are asked to Save changes to the current configuration?
