Background:

New federal accounting standards have caused the University to re-evaluate the health care benefits paid to retirees from the University of Kentucky. There have been several options proposed, each of them putting some type of limit on the dollars the University will pay towards health insurance for retirees. This would have much potential impact on the future out-of-pocket health care expenses retirees from U.K. can expect, and represents a very significant change from the current benefits.
