Welcome to CELT

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) was created in the summer of 2010 as a way of highlighting educational development resources and services available to UK instructors. The center is housed on the fifth floor of the King Building (home of the Science Library) in room 518. CELT's mission is to promote and support excellence in teaching and learning at the University of Kentucky. We work with all instructors at UK and collaborate with many other academic support units to create engaging, innovative and inclusive learning environments in which diverse students can excel.

A&S Course Redesign Institute: Spring 2012

In the Spring 2012 semester, the Center for the enhancement of Teaching and Learning partnered with the College of Arts & Sciences to design and deliver a Course Redesign Institute to assist a select number of Arts & Sciences faculty with incorporating more active learning techniques and educational technologies into new or existing courses. We're really thrilled to see the creative ideas that our faculty Institute participants have come up with to implement in their courses this Fall (some even started implementing their new ideas this Spring!). We look forward to working with other Course Redesign cohorts in Arts & Sciences and other Colleges at the University of Kentucky in 2012-13!

Presenting Dr. Michael Wesch: The End of Wonder in the Age of Whatever

New media and technology present us with an overwhelming bounty of tools for connection, creativity, collaboration, and knowledge creation - a true "Age of Whatever" where anything seems possible. But any enthusiasm about these remarkable possibilities is immediately tempered by that other "Age of Whatever" - an age in which people feel increasingly disconnected, disempowered, tuned out, and alienated. Professor Wesch has managed to inspire wonder in his students by giving them 'the gift of big questions.' Wesch often teaches courses exceeding 400 students and has been breaking ground in higher education with his use of technology in teaching and research. We believe Dr. Wesch's talk will inspire you and begin a dialog on our campus about academic motivation and using technology to broaden the learning experience for UK students.

Attend Our New Faculty Teaching Academy

The New Faculty Teaching Academy is a series of workshops offered to faculty new to the University of Kentucky to assist them in having a successful start with teaching responsibilities at the University of Kentucky. It is sponsored by the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) and is intended to serve as a follow-up to New Faculty Orientation. The workshops are designed to introduce participants to issues such as course design, effective teaching strategies, the characteristics of UK students, and the academic culture of the campus. There will be four workshops offered during the Fall 2012 semester detailed below. For information regarding all CELT workshops for the upcoming semester please visit our Events page.
