Undergraduate and Graduate Students NOT Enrolled in a 767 Course
All undergraduate and graduate students who are earning academic credit for independent study or research must register through UK Education Abroad. All students will also be enrolled in ISP 599 for one credit hour at the appropriate residency rate, which will maintain the student’s UK full-time student status and allow most tuition/fees for additional hours earned while abroad to be waived. Graduate students have the option of waiving enrollment in ISP 599 but must notify the UK Education Abroad office in writing that he/she wishes to opt out of the course at least 30 days to the start of the term abroad.

Students who are traveling under UK auspices (e.g., on travel funded or coordinated in any way by the University), but who are not enrolled in credit related to their travel, must register through the Office of International Health, Safety & Security. Please contact Jason Hope, Manager of International Health, Safety and Security, at jasonhope@uky.edu or call 859-218-4961.

Independent International Study and Research (For Credit)

Graduate Students Enrolled in a 767 Course
Graduate students enrolled in a 767 credit course associated with independent study or independent research study  are considered to be engaging in credit-bearing international travel and must register through UK Education Abroad. These students will automatically be enrolled in ISP 599 at the in-state tuition rate, unless the student notifies Education Abroad in writing that he/she wishes to opt out of the course at least 30 days prior to the start of the term abroad or when there are established department- or course-specific requests to do so.  Students do not need to enroll themselves in ISP 599 as UK Education Abroad will do so automatically.

Enrollment in ISP 599 (alongside 767) will maintain the student’s UK full-time student status and allow most tuition/fees for additional hours earned while abroad to be waived. By enrolling in ISP 599 (1 credit), the tuition associated with 767 (2 credits) will not be charged. Students will only be assessed for the 1-credit associated with 767 at the in-state rate of tuition..
