Scholarships for New Students

Be aware that scholarship deadlines are much earlier than application deadlines.

Scholarships for Current Students

International Student Tuition Scholarship 
Applications accepted every spring. Deadline: April 1, 2016
Approximately twenty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to F-1 or J-1 undergraduate and graduate students based on strong academic scholarship and financial need.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Students may receive this scholarship a maximum of two times
  2. Applicants must be:

    • International students in F-1 or J-1 status
    • Students who have completed at least one semester at UK in the current program
    • Currently enrolled at UK
    • Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for undergraduate or 3.0 for graduate and professional students
    • Exhibiting financial need and/or outstanding academic performance

Note: Sponsored students or students with a full assistantship or fellowship are not eligible.

Instructions for Applying
To apply, submit application materials (listed below) through UK’s International Student Portal, iCAT ( - For login instructions click here):

  1. Submit scholarship application
  2. Request two recommendations from two UK faculty members or one UK faculty and one UK staff member, who can comment on your character, academic performance, and/or your financial need.  (recommendation forms on iCAT)
  3. Submit other required documents in iCAT:

    • unofficial transcript - can be found on myUK
    • 500-word essay - discuss your financial need and/or your outstanding academic performance at UK
    • Note: Transcript and Essay must be submitted in PDF or image file format (JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP)

All application materials including transcript, essay, and recommendation forms must be submitted in order for your application to be considered

Viji Jeganathan Scholarship for Cross-Cultural Understanding
Applications accepted every spring. Deadline: April 1, 2016
This is an endowed scholarship in memory of an outstanding international student, Viji Jeganathan. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize an individual who demonstrates leadership and ability in bridging cultural differences and who by example promotes communication among students of diverse nationalities at UK or in the Lexington Community. This scholarship is not limited to international students. For eligibility criteria and application, please see file below.
