UK connection with Fund for Education Abroad provides scholarships for students

University of Kentucky undergraduates may find financial assistance with Fund for Education Abroad, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships to students in education abroad programs.
Anthony Ogden, executive director of Education Abroad and Exchanges at UK, was a founding board member for FEA and recently stepped down from his position. JJ Jackson, the vice president of the Office for Institutional Diversity at UK, recently took over this position.

From Cuba to China, more than a dozen faculty from the UK College of Arts & Sciences will lead education abroad programs this upcoming summer.  Many of these programs are open to students from all disciplines.

Bradley Hall Flags Show Breadth of UK Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 17, 2014) — The flags displayed on Bradley Hall serve as much more than a decoration identifying the UK International Center (UKIC). The flags also represent the home countries of UK's international students, who hail from more than 120 countries.

First Generation Students "see blue." in London

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2014) —When N'Deyah Belle, Brandon King and Abel Rodriguez first set foot on the University of Kentucky campus, they had one thing in common: they were each the first person in their families to go to college.

Today, they have something else in common.

As part of a class tailored for first-generation students, they had the opportunity to enroll in an education abroad course in London, England during the summer of 2014.

UK Education Abroad Participation Jumps 24 Percent

The number of University of Kentucky students exploring the international dimension of their disciplines by studying abroad increased by 24 percent this past year — eight times the national average.

"Our growth is massive, and even more significant when compared to the roughly 3 percent growth the rest of the nation is experiencing," said Anthony Ogden, executive director of education abroad and exchanges at UK.

UK Volleyball Goes to China

The Kentucky volleyball team and staff returned from a two-week trip to China Wednesday night, where they combined competition and culture into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Wildcats visited five cities, played seven matches against some of the elite Chinese professional teams and went on an educational journey along the way. The team visited historical sites and landmarks and took a class that began a week before they left and continued in China.

Three UK Students Invited to Fulbright Summer Institutes in the UK

The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced the selection of three UK students by the US-UK Fulbright Commission to participate in Fulbright Summer Institutes in the United Kingdom.

International Tent/Tailgate Party

All international alumni, Education Abroad alumni, IHP families, faculty, staff and students are invited to a celebration of UK’s international family.

The International Tent/Tailgate Party will take place on Saturday, October 11, at 10 a.m., two hours before UK's football game against the University of Louisiana Monroe. The tent will be located near the corner of University Drive and Cooper Drive, see map below.

Blue Abroad: Touring the Chelsea Football Club

Fifteen first-generation University of Kentucky students are seeing blue across the Atlantic this summer. In a course designed specifically for first-generation students, the group is exploring global communication and business in London, England, led by Director of First Generation Initiatives Matthew Deffendall.

Throughout three weeks spanning the end of June and beginning of July, the students are visiting several international businesses and corporations, and UKNow is highlighting some of their experiences by publishing their blogs.
