Information Technology Services (ITS) completed a new collaboration with the College of Communication and Information with the launch of CI CoLab on Thursday, January 25th.
The CI CoLab is a technology learning laboratory for students, faculty, and staff. The CoLab provides a space to perform research in four divisions, including user-experience (UX), eye-tracking, virtual reality (VR) and social media listening. This is the only lab on the UK campus to offer these unique services.
ITS provided displays, furniture, and iMac computers for the CI CoLab. A highlight of the space is the 90-inch wall-mounted display, which can show virtual reality, analytics, and eye tracking all at once. The CI CoLab was conceived in 2015, and the work began in Fall of 2017.
Jesse Stallsworth is the Director of Operations for CI CoLab. Through Stallsworth's work towards his Masters in Information Communication Technology, he looks forward to the great potential that the CoLab can offer. "It's is a new opportunity to learn and collaborate through innovative technology. This can be used for psychology, for communication, and really for anything that we study at UK," said Stallsworth.
College Media Officer & Lab Supervisor Nathan Stevens has also been involved in this collaborative effort, and he sees its prospect for future projects. "I'm excited about the research potential," Stevens remarked.
The CI CoLab is open for students, faculty, and staff and located in Room 310N of Little Library. Operating hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To utilize, contact CICoLab@g.uky.edu in advance to reserve space.
