Elizabeth Burckardt DNP, RN, APRN
Dr. Burckardt has a strong clinical background in adult gerontological critical care nursing. She received her BSN from the University of Kentucky in 2004 and went on to complete her Master’s Degree in 2007 from the University of Kentucky while working fulltime at the UK Chandler Medical Center in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit. She returned to complete her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2010. Her DNP Project was titled “A Needs Assessment of Patients with Implanted Left Ventricular Assist Devices and Program Development of a LVAD Support Group Program.”
Dr Burckardt’s clinical interests and scholarship focus includes improving patient outcomes in the cardiac surgical population, Decompensated Heart Failure, Mechanical Assist Devices, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation utilization, and Structural heart disease.
Dr. Burckardt assisted in the development of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Program and is the Director of the Structural Heart Program at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. She is currently practicing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with Norton Cardiothoracic Surgery in Louisville, Kentucky. She remains an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
