How and where do I sign up for PTS Car Sharing?
Visit the University of Kentucky Hertz on Demand page, click “join” and get started!
What will I need to have on hand when I sign up?
You will only need your driver’s license and a credit or debit card to apply online.
What is the age requirement for this program?
Unlike traditional car rental services, the minimum age allowed to use the car sharing program is 18 with a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
What is considered a good driving record?
Members must have had a driver’s license for at least one year and maintain a driver’s license for the duration of the membership. An applicant will be rejected for the following: (1) a currently suspended, revoked, or expired driver’s license; (2) a conviction of reckless driving within the past 36 months; (3) a conviction of driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated or driving while impaired in the past 36 months; (4) three or more moving violations within the past 24 months; (5) failing to report an accident or leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months; or (6) a conviction of possession of a stolen vehicle, or the use of a stolen vehicle in the commission of a crime in the past 36 months.
This is only for people who don’t have cars, right?
No! PTS Car Sharing is a great option for many different groups: those who don’t have cars on campus, those who regularly use alternative transportation, and those who want to avoid wear and tear on their vehicle. We encourage all students and employees to give car sharing a try.
How do I access the car of my choice?
Check the locations map on the UK Hertz on Demand page to find the exact spot where your car will be parked. Hertz on Demand will also confirm the location in an e-mail and a text message. All PTS Car Sharing vehicles are located near CATS bus stops, for your convenience. Your Hertz on Demand card acts as your personal key to the car, with 24/7 access. Just swipe it across the reader on the driver's side of the windshield to unlock the doors.
How much does PTS Car Sharing cost?
The car sharing application fee and annual membership fee are waived for any member of the UK community. Rates start at $8 an hour and include 180 miles per day. Gas, maintenance and insurance are included in the cost.
How do I pay for the service?
When you join Hertz on Demand, you will enter your credit or debit card information. Hertz on Demand will charge your credit or debit card for the costs incurred after you return the car. At the end of each month, you’ll get an invoice of all your charges for using the Hertz on Demand cars, plus any additional charges that you may have incurred.
Can I cancel my reservation if my plans change?
You can change your booking up to four hours before with no additional charge. If you are within the four-hour window, Hertz on Demand will charge you for the reserved period, up to a maximum of one day's fee.
What type of insurance is included in the rental fee?
Insurance is included in the rental rate. As discussed in the Terms and Conditions governing your membership, Hertz on Demand provides Liability Protection at the level mandated by the automobile financial responsibility law of the jurisdiction in which the accident occurs and protection for damage to or loss of the car for the full value of or their property up to the provided policy limits. The vehicle insurance deductible is $250; the deductible is the amount of money that the customer pays out of pocket to cover damages if they are involved in an accident.
What happens if you go over the daily mileage limit?
If you go over 180 miles per day, you will be charged 45 cents per mile per 24 hour period that you keep the vehicle.
What happens if I am running late in returning the car?
It’s important to return the car on time, as another member may be waiting to use it. If you think you’re going to be late, please call the Member Care Center at (877) 654-4400. If you are late, you will be charged the full booking fee, plus additional over-run charges. These charges will be calculated in 15-minute increments, and will include a late-fee charge of $50.
How is the gas paid for if you are out in the vehicle?
Fuel is included in the cost of the rental. If you need to fill up while you’re using the car, just use the fuel card to pay for your gas; it’s located above the sun visor.
Will I be able to rent a regular Hertz vehicle if I am a Connect by Hertz member?
If you are a Hertz on Demand member and 21 years of age or older, you can rent from any regular Hertz location and receive a 20% discount as a UK Hertz on Demand member.
I have a question not listed here or a problem. Who should I contact?
Contact the Hertz on Demand Member Care Center at (877) 654-4400 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can also contact the Member Care Center from the vehicle by pushing and holding the red Connect button (located near the driver's door) for eight seconds or until it starts blinking. Someone from the Member Care Center will call you back using the in-car communication system.
