Construction Parking Impacts

Commonwealth Stadium Expansion Project

Commonwealth Stadium Parking and Shuttle Changes

The Commonwealth Stadium expansion and renovation project began in late December 2013. Construction and staging fencing were erected prior to the end of 2013, which blocked 708 parking spaces. These spaces will be blocked throughout the duration of the project, which has an expected completion date of October 2015.

During the first phase, the majority of the impact (596 spaces) is along the south side of Commonwealth Stadium, in the Blue Lot (K), while a smaller number (112 spaces) were lost in the Green Lot (C6).

The second phase of the Commonwealth Stadium expansion and renovation project, which will eliminate 374 spaces along the west side of the stadium (Red Lot), has been delayed until the conclusion of spring semester. This parking impact was initially scheduled to occur beginning next week (the week of March 17, 2014) in order to accommodate the expansion of the stadium’s west plaza area. However, due to a recent adjustment in the project phasing, this impact has been postponed until May 2014, after spring graduation.

During Spring Break 2015, an additional 249 spaces will be lost throughout the Commonwealth Stadium Red and Blue lots for installation of landscape islands. More information on these additional impacts will be released closer to their start dates.

At the completion of the Commonwealth Stadium expansion and renovation in the fall of 2015, 658 parking spaces — those that were used for staging purposes — will be regained and introduced back into the university’s parking inventory. A total of 673 parking spaces will be lost permanently due to this project. Click the image at right for a larger map of the impacted area.

Employees and students who park in the Commonwealth Stadium vicinity are encouraged to allow extra time in their commute and to familiarize themselves with parking alternatives in the area. A campus parking map can be found at
