Transportation Services offers an alternative travel option for students and employees in visiting a variety of destinations. The Ride Home Express will operate at the start and end of the Thanksgiving, winter semester and spring breaks, and will serve 15 cities along three routes. The Ride Home Express will provide reliable, comfortable and affordable transportation on deluxe motor coach buses to and from hometowns or break destinations during the three major academic breaks. The program offers significantly cheaper fares than airlines, and faster travel times than other major bus companies.
Riders may bring one large piece of luggage, one small piece of luggage and one carry-on item.

*In the event that the minimum number of riders is not met, routes or stops along the routes may be eliminated. If the route is eliminated, ticketholders will be refunded in full. If a stop or stops is eliminated, the impacted riders will be contacted and be permitted to choose a new destination for a partial refund or to cancel for a full refund.
Transportation To and From Kroger Field
Transportation Services can provide free transportation to and from Kroger Field for Ride Home Express riders. If you wish to utilize this service, you must fill out the Ride Home Express Shuttle form after you purchase your ticket, no later than two business days prior to shuttle departure.
Purchasing a Ticket
UK students are able to reserve a round-trip seat via the Web by logging on to the Customer Account Manager with their Link Blue ID. BCTC students are also able to purchase round-trip tickets online with their KCTCS login. Ride Home Express tickets will be available under the "Purchase Permits" section once logged in. All other riders must purchase their seats from the Transportation Services office in person. One-way fares may only be purchased in person or over the telephone.
Tickets will not be issued. All passengers will be added to a manifest and will need to bring a photo ID to board the bus. Round-trip fares for the Ride Home Express range from $55-$155, with prices varying based on the final destination; a complete price list is listed below. Maps are linked to the route or stop name, and will open in a new window.
Transportation Services recommends purchasing tickets as soon as possible. Space is limited, and seats will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the event that a route sells out, Transportation Services will maintain wait lists. If you are on a wait list, you will be contacted via email when and if an additional bus is added to your preferred route.
Riders will not be able to change their departure or boarding location without notifying Transportation Services staff at firstname.lastname@example.org and receiving written confirmation of approved location change. Such requests will not be reviewed outside of regular business hours.

If a rider must cancel their trip, Transportation Services will refund a percentage of the ticket cost based on the number of days remaining until the departure date. The refund is calculated on a pro-rata basis, as listed below. All refunds are for Thanksgiving are calculated based on a November 22 departure date.
- 100% if 14 or more days
- 80% if 8 to 13 days
- 50% if 1 to 7 days
- No refund if trip is missed
University of Kentucky Transportation Services welcomes service animals onboard the Ride Home Express shuttles. Service animals must be registered with the UK Disability Resource Center.
Under Department of Transportation (DOT) Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations at 49 C.F.R. Section 37.3, a “service animal” is defined as “any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals with impaired hearing to intruders or sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items.”
Emotional support animals, therapy animals and pets are not permitted.
All service animals must remain under the rider’s care and supervision and behave appropriately at all times while onboard Ride Home Express shuttles.
The following guidelines have been established for service animals on the Ride Home Express:
- The animal must be on a leash or in a closed carrier, remain under the rider’s control and behave appropriately at all times.
- The animal must remain at the rider’s feet. The animal may not sit on a vehicle seat.
- The animal must not be aggressive toward people or other animals.
- The animal must be housebroken. The rider is responsible for any damage or staining caused by the animal.
