Undergraduate and graduate students from any major are encouraged to submit proposals by September 23, 2013 for the Dell Empowering Women Challenge. Students’ submissions should “propose initiatives to empower women and girls, thereby creating business opportunities and recognizing female influence.” Fifty finalists will receive mentors to develop their ideas and the winning team will be awarded $15,000 in December 2013. Included in the revision are changes to the expiration timeframe and minimum length. The number of lockout attempts and a new default password were implemented in Fall 2013.
Google is currently offering educational institutions hosting for email, calendars, and other productivity tools through Google Apps for Education, an integrated communication and collaboration solution. This product enables UK to provide students and employees with UK-branded, advertising-free access to a variety of popular cloud-based tools at a low cost to the university. All current employees and students can create an UK Google Apps account.
Several years ago, Microsoft announced public folders would be discontinued, but did not provide an exact date. The remaining public folders need to be phased out by June 30, 2014 as support continues to decrease and disk space is limited.

Efforts began in November 2012 to transform the computer lab space in The Hub at W.T. Young to a student digital media space to be known as “The Media Depot.” The Media Depot will provide online assistance, recording equipment and space, editing stations with software, and technical support for students’ development of their academic media projects. The Media Depot is funded by the Student Technology Fee and is a collaboration between Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) and UK Libraries and is in support of the QEP, Presentation U.
