Information Security Awareness Contest

The EDUCAUSE & Internet2 Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC) is conducting a contest in search of short information security awareness videos and posters developed by college students for college students. The contest seeks creative, topical, and effective videos (two minutes or less) and posters that focus attention on information security problems and how best to handle them.

UK Participates in eTextbook Pilot

This fall, more than 850 students in three introductory level courses received free textbooks thanks to UK's participation in a multi-institution digital textbook pilot study designed by EDUCAUSE and Internet2 (I2). The pilot, which uses textbooks published by McGraw-Hill and viewed using CourseLoad, a collaborative, multi-platform compatible e-reader, was sponsored by the Office of the Provost and is being conducted by UKIT in partnership with the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching and the UK Libraries.

UK Enhances Email Templates

Have you noticed the daily UKNow emails have a new letter head? Over the summer, UKPR took steps to improve the look and feel by asking UKIT for help. UKPR saw UKIT’s internal and external newsletter formats and requested enhanced header and footer templates for UKNow emails, the President’s email announcements and Campus News General Announcements.

Who created these myths?
There is no one source for these myths. They may have been formed because of a lack of information, an assumption, knowledge of a specific case that was then generalized, or some other cause. As with any myth, they are passed from one individual to another, usually because they seem legitimate enough to be true.

Mobile Application Hits a New High

August 2011 to August 2012 showed a marked increase in the use of UK’s suite of mobile applications. This was no surprise given the record size of the first year class of 2012 and the overall number of current students at UK, now nearly 29,000.

Domain Name Server Changes

UPDATED: November 15, 2013

Computers and other internet network devices use an IP address (a combination of numbers and dots) to route requests to a specific site (url address).  A Domain Name Server (DNS) manages a massive database that maps domain names to IP addresses (like a GPS of the internet).
