Domain Name Server Changes
POSTED: OCTOBER 5, 2012
This Domain Name Server (DNS) service change notice is for administrators/users who have manually defined a DNS list on their device. The DNS service provided by ncc.uky.edu (128.163.1.6) and nic.net.uky.edu (128.163.3.10) will be phased out and shut down by December 1, 2012.
Devices that use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to obtain an IP address and accept DHCP DNS option values will not need updating. Devices which are set using a static IP or have a static DNS list, which overrides the values provided by DHCP, will need to check/edit their device Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) properties.
Please take a moment to review network settings and adjust or have your local computer administrator review your network setting on all servers/machines/devices within your area of responsibility. Systems using a static DNS of 128.163.3.10 and 128.163.1.6 should be updated by an administrator before DNS resolution services cease on November 1, 2012.
Below is the list of DNS servers commonly used for resolving host-names to addresses, use the updated list below when static DNS server lists are required on the device:
| Area of service | DNS Server | New DNS IP address setting |
| Campus | sndca1.net.uky.edu | 128.163.1.11 |
| Campus | sndca2.net.uky.edu | 128.163.37.132 |
| Medical Center | sndmc1.net.uky.edu | 128.163.111.166 |
| Medical Center | sndmc2.net.uky.edu | 128.163.111.167 |
Please communicate this information throughout your area.If more information is required, please consult your local IT administrator or contact the UKIT Service Desk at 859-218-HELP (4357).
In summary:
