Grantee Showcase Provides Faculty Feedback on Incorporating Technology in Curriculums
The UK Analytics and Technologies (UKAT) Grantee Showcase was held on May 6, 2014 in the Marksbury Theater. Patsy Carruthers, Director of UKAT’s Academic Technology Group welcomed over 30 UK faculty members from 12 various colleges. Buddy Hall, UKAT Education Technology Specialist led the group through a demonstration of the Learning Management Service, Canvas. The showcase then featured UKAT Grantee recipients highlighting their experiences with incorporating various software into course lectures and curriculums.
Dr. Michael Piascik, Professor, Regular Faculty, and Director of Educational Activities for the Department of Pharmacology & Nutriotional Sciences in the College of Medicine, discussed his use of implementing LectureTools in Principles of Drug Action (PHA 621). Dr. Piascik was a LectureTools Grantee recipient and implemented the software in his lectures. During his presentation, he provided his feedback for using LectureTools for the first time and his plans for revising the use of the software in future courses.
Dr. Sujin Kim, Ph.D. of the College of Public Health’s Division of Biomedical Informatics presented “An Effectiveness Study of Personalized Learning Platform for Health Informatics Instruction. Dr. Kim was a recipient of an Advanced Analytics in Personalized Learning Grant. She provided an overview of her use of Personalized Learning in a Health Informatics course.
Stacy Taylor, Clinical Assistant Professor of the College of Pharmacy provided results from using LectureTools in Patient Care Lab VI (PPS 969). As a LectureTools Grantee recipient, Stacy explained the pros and cons of her experiences with using LectureTools this past semester and feedback students provided throughout the semester and via a survey.
Dr. Allison Soult, Chemistry Lecturer for the College of Arts & Sciences was a recipient for the eLearning Innovation Initive MOOC Start-up Fund. She delivered a presentation on UK’s first Coursera MOOC, Advanced Chemistry.
Lastly, Joe Brown, Research Privacy Specialist and Belinda Smith, Research Education Specialist of the Office of Research Integrity spoke about IRB and eLearning.
