Advance Your Practice

Designed for working professionals who have an M.S.N., D.N.P. or Ph. D in Nursing, this online program will prepare you to seek certification in one of the following specialties: Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or Executive Nursing Leadership.

As a graduate of this program you will be able to:

  • Apply scientific principles as you diagnose, manage, treat, and evaluate patients.
  • Employ advanced practice nursing specialty competencies and evidence-based treatment with specific populations.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams in order to optimize care for diverse populations.

Class are completed online. However, students must attend in-person immersion blocks (1-3 days) twice each semester. During the immersion blocks you will attend orientation and networking events and complete various degree-related activities, including testing, skill assessments, simulation, and standardized patient modules. Students complete 16 to 31 credit hours, depending on specialty track and previously completed coursework.

“The University of Kentucky’s acute care post-masters certificate program allowed me to continue working in a busy electrophysiology practice while completing my certificate. The knowledge I gained and contacts I made from this program have been invaluable in my career. I am now dual certified in two population foci, family practice and adult gerontology acute care, and am completing my doctoral studies in executive leadership!”
