At the University of Kentucky’s School of Information Science, we offer courses to help you grow as a public, academic, school or even health sciences librarian. There are only a number of library schools with ALA-accredited (**continued accreditation) programs, and a few still that offer the Master’s in Library Science (MLS, MSLS, etc.) fully online. Graduate students in the Library & Information Science (LIS) program at UK SIS have the opportunity to earn their degree online and in as little as 36 credit hours. Students are admitted for fall, summer, and spring semesters. Students pursuing the degree will apply to the Graduate School for admission to the Library Science MS degree program. There is no preferred undergraduate degree program.
Admission to the Library Science MS degree program requires 1) a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; 2) a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on any prior undergraduate or graduate work, in both cases on a scale with A = 4.0; 3) a resume/CV; 4) a personal statement; and 5) three letters of recommendation.
Applicants for whom English is not the native language must achieve a TOEFL score of 550 for the paper-based test (213 for computer-based test or 79 for the internet-based test).
