Mark Williams
Mark was raised in Southfield, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors in Accounting and a Masters in Hospitality Business. After college, he worked as an accountant for a public accounting firm, insurance company, and an assistant controller for a university. Over time, he realized that his purpose and passion was serving students and helping them transition from college into their careers. He served as a Community Director at Michigan State University, an Academic Support Program Specialist at the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign, and a Career Advisor for the GIES College of Business.
Prior job that shaped him: While working as an accountant for an insurance company, Mark sat at a computer all day and realized that this wasn’t his passion and helping people was his purpose. It was at that moment that he took ownership of his career and became a Community Director that led him here to the University of Kentucky.
How he would describe himself: High energy, Motivator, constantly learning, a heart for people, and an advocate for positive change in others and the world.
What he enjoys doing outside of work: Bowling, taking naps, watching sports, exercising, find new places to eat, hanging out with friends
A goal in life: To travel to Japan and Palo Alto, CA, and bowl a 300 in a bowling league
Fun Fact: He has a Connect 4 in his office and challenges students to play him. Mark is currently undefeated and looking for new challenges.
