Critical Language Scholarship

Lauren Copeland, a Gender and Women's Studies doctoral student, was awarded a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Arabic. The CLS program offers intensive summer language institutes overseas in 14 critical need foreign languages and is part of a U.S. government effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages. Participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply their language skills in their future professional careers.
