Grants and Scholarships
This exciting program provides undergraduates at the University of Kentucky with hands-on experience in academic research, working alongside faculty. Students are placed in research settings ranging from plant biochemistry to computer science to American history.

Cheer on UK undergraduate research students as they share their trailblazing research and compete for cash prizes in the first-ever 5-Minute Fast Track Competition. The 5-Minute Fast Track is an academic competition that cultivates students' presentation and research communication skills, and challenges them to describe their research to a general audience within five minutes.
Any current UK undergraduate (full- or part-time, enrolled for either semester) who does not already have a four-year degree is eligible for this competition and is invited to submit papers and other projects in the following categories:
1. Biological Sciences
2. Design (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, etc.)
3. Fine Arts (film, music, painting, sculpture, video, etc.)
4. Humanities: Creative
5. Humanities: Critical Research
6. Physical and Engineering Sciences
7. Social Sciences
Research Travel Grants (up to $600) are awarded to students to help subsidize travel costs incurred while presenting at local and national conferences.
Undergraduate Research Abroad Scholarships (up to $5000) are a collaborative effort between the Office of Undergraduate Research (UGR) and Education Abroad (EA) to provide students with an international research opportunity.
Summer Research Grants (up to $2000) are awarded to undergraduates in all areas of intellectual inquiry and many different levels of matriculation.\
Summer Sustainability Research and Creativity Grants (up to $2500) are funded by the Environmental Stewardship Fee and seek to promote projects that will make a significant contribution to the student’s academic growth, while concomitantly contributing to sustainability focused research initiatives at the University of Kentucky and within the community at large. Where appropriate, we are also seeking projects that will make a scholarly contribution in their discipline. Sustainability here is defined as the intersection of social, economic and environmental justice.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), established in 1987, is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students.
