Steven Browning, Ph.D., from the College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky, has directed the OccEpi program of the CARERC since 2017, as well as serving as the Associate Director of the CARERC. Since coming to the University of Kentucky in 1994, he has held faculty positions in the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing prior to his appointment in the College of Public Health. He has been the longest serving Director of Graduate Studies for the Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (2012-2018) and currently directs the new MS program in Epidemiology. Dr. Browning’s research interests are in occupational and environmental epidemiology and he has advised over 200 graduate students for doctoral dissertations and masters theses. He has conducted population-based research projects on agricultural health concerns among farmers and farm families in the state of Kentucky and recently completed a five-year grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) for the project “Community-engaged research & action to reduce respiratory disease in Appalachia” to examine respiratory health disparities among adults in Eastern Kentucky”.
