Honors Abroad
International educational experiences are crucial for students to become well-rounded citizens of the world, and we strongly encourage students to fulfill the 6-credit hour experiential credit requirement by exploring programs that include faculty-directed, research, internship, or education abroad opportunities.
Here are the steps to follow to identify the program that best fits any major, area of interest, duration, or language immersion.
1) Attend a First Steps Session to evaluate when to go abroad, what program to explore, how much it will cost, and how to finance the experience.
2) Meet with the following people:
- Your Honors Advisor to discuss fulfilling your Honors experiential credit requirement abroad
- Your Academic Advisor to discuss courses and credits you take abroad
- Your Education Abroad Advisor to discuss choosing a program and applying
3) Complete the UK Education Abroad & Exchanges Scholarship to be considered for Lewis Honors College awards. Also explore other scholarship opportunities.
After reviewing available options, contact LHC Education Abroad Advisor Allison Peoples at allison.peoples@uky.edu to discuss program applications or Associate Dean Dr. Pearl James at pearl.james@uky.edu to discuss Honors portfolio programs.
