Open enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to make certain benefits changes.

It’s the only time all employees can change health insurance, re-enroll in flexible spending accounts, and add more coverage from our benefits package. That’s three decisions — only if you want to make them.

If you take no action, no problem:

You’ll keep the same insurances
No money will be deposited into your flexible spending account if you have one

Qualifying events

If you experience a major life change outside of open enrollment you can also make changes to your insurance. This is known as a qualifying event.

How to change your benefits

Log in to myuk.uky.edu with your linkblue ID and password
Click the Employee Self Service tab
Click Benefits and Payment
To see all your current coverage and levels, click Participation Overview and to change your benefits, click Open Enrollment.

Open Enrollment is available as an option in the list from April 27 to May 13.

Decision 1: Do you want to change or add any insurance?

The cost of insurance typically changes every year and the new rates take effect on July 1. You get this news during open enrollment so you can use it to inform your decisions.

Two dentistry provider options, each with two coverage levels

Decision 2: Do you want to add or re-enroll in a flexible spending account?

Flexible spending accounts (FSA)

Set aside money tax free to pay for planned health, child and dependent care expenses.

FSA for dependent care

Deposit up to $5,000 to spend on eligible child care and elder care expenses.

FSA for health care

Deposit up to $2,850 to spend on eligible medical expenses.

Decision 3: Do you want to add more coverage from your benefits package?

Unless you have a qualifying event, you can only add and change most of these benefits during open enrollment. However, you can decrease life insurance at any time.

Choose from two plan options. Both plans pay benefits for up to six months.

Accidental death and dismemberment The MPM Group

You or your beneficiary can receive a benefit if you are seriously injured or die in an accident.

Cancer insurance The MPM Group

This insurance is designed to help offset the expenses related to cancer and 29 other specified diseases.

Access to legal advice and representation

Long-term disability insurance The MPM Group

This coverage provides a benefit if you become disabled and unable to work.
