  • Job satisfaction and support

  • Professional development
  • Mission and pride
  • Supervisor/department chair effectiveness
  • Confidence in senior leadership
  • Faculty and staff well-being
  • Shared governance
  • Faculty experience

A report on our 2021 results will be available soon. You can currently view our 2020 report. The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition is the employee feedback.

Hear from our employees

Below is a sample of feedback our employees provided on the Great College to Work For survey.

Staff feedback

"I feel genuinely appreciated for my work, and I have a great understanding of why I do the work that I do. I think leadership did an absolutely fantastic job navigating the COVID crisis, especially in ramping up testing and vaccination for the community. The past year has been a challenge, but I would rather have endured the pandemic working here than at any other place."

"The University of Kentucky is a great place to work! They are well respected within the state as well as across the nation. I also appreciate that when my family members came down with COVID-19, I sent them to UK HealthCare because I knew that was where they would get the best care. Not only did they get the best care while in the hospital, they continue even a year later to get personalized care and contact through research programs, vaccinations, etc. Literally, saved my family member’s life!"

Faculty feedback

"The leadership is transparent even in difficult situations and involves the faculty and staff every step of the way. There are checks and balances with shared governance, and no one person is able to hold power for an extended amount of time in most councils and decision making platforms. But most of all, my dean and associate dean allow me to use my specific skill set to shine. I am able to do what I love and what I am good at, so I enjoy my work. If something is not working well, we are able to negotiate that with each DOE meeting that is held annually in the spring. Our comments and concerns are heard and changes are made based upon them."

"I appreciate the atmosphere in my department - the fact that everyone is committed to working together and providing the best learning opportunities for our students. Everyone respects each other and seems genuinely eager to have everyone thrive."
