Dr. Sharon Lock is Professor, Assistant Dean of Faculty Practice and Director of the College of Nursing's Phyllis D. Corbitt Community Health Center in Wilmore, KY. Dr. Lock served as the coordinator of the primary care nurse practitioner track for more than 15 years. In 2006, as a member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, she served on the National Panel for Nurse Practitioner Practice Doctorate Competencies. In 2010 she received the College’s Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award. In 2014, she co-authored the proposal that resulted in implementation of the first and largest DNP education academic practice partnership with Norton Healthcare in Kentucky. In 2015, Dr. Lock led an academic-community partnership to establish the UK College of Nursing Phyllis D. Corbitt Community Health Center in Wilmore, KY. More recently through a HRSA funded grant she has provided leadership over a complex partnership of academic and healthcare partners to prepare undergraduate nursing students in the role of the registered nurse in primary care with a focus on rural health.
Dr. Lock's research interests include teen pregnancy prevention and sexual risk reduction among adolescents. She has received NIH funding to study communication between sexual partners.
Dr. Lock received BSN and MSN degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a PhD in Nursing Science from the University of South Carolina and a post-graduate certificate as a primary care nurse practitioner from the University of Virginia. Dr. Lock is a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice, a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.
