Instructional Programs

Climbing Fundamentals
This 1½ hour course will teach you the basics of climbing‚ belaying‚ and safety. After taking this course you are eligible to take the belay test on your next visit.

Wall Introduction and Test
Experienced climbers who have climbed/belayed‚ indoor or outdoor‚ more than 10 times but have not climbed at the Johnson Center can become eligible to take the belay test without attending the Fundamentals class. Simply pass a written safety test administered at the climbing desk and then move on to the belay test. Upon passing these tests‚ the climber will be able to climb/belay at the facility during any open wall hours. If a climber fails either test‚ it is required that the Climbing Fundamentals course be taken‚ and the belay test be retaken.
