Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library

The Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library (WWBL) is a nationally-recognized educational resource that provides free bicycle use and repair assistance to students, faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky. The core of the program is a bicycle recycling system that takes abandoned bicycles from the campus and reuses them in the campus fleet. In addition to the bicycle library, WWBL also operates an on-campus bike shop that is open five days a week during fall and spring semesters to assist the campus community with bicycle maintenance and repair. Wildcat Wheels is funded and operated by Transportation Services and staffed by student employees.

Bicycle Check Out Options

Semester Check Out: Wildcat Wheels has a fleet of 100 bicycles that can checked out for a full semester at a time. Demand for these bikes often exceeds supply; when that is the case, the bikes are awarded through a random lottery.

For Summer 2018, bikes will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the shop during scheduled shop hours to check out a bike, or email wildcatwheels@gmail.com if you cannot make it during these times.

To sign up for a bicycle for the Fall 2018 semester, enter the lottery by filling out the application here. Deadline to apply is Friday, August 24th. Recipients will be notified of their status on Monday, August 27th.

Weekly Check Outs: Wildcat Wheels has a fleet of bikes that can be checked out for up to one week at a time for short-term use. These are available first-come, first-serve during open shop hours.

Tandems, or bicycles built for two, are also available. Check them out during open shop hours for up to a week at a time.

Big Blue Cycles

Big Blue Cycles

Big Blue Cycles is a fleet of more than 150 bicycles available to students living in campus housing who sign a commitment not to bring a car to Lexington. The bicycles for this program will be commuter-style, 8-speeds equipped with fenders, a lock, a helmet and a bell. Participating students will be guaranteed the bicycle for the entire academic year. Bicycles will be due back at the end of the spring semester. If the number of applicants is greater than the number of bikes available, a random drawing will be used to select the group of students eligible for the program.

Registration for the 2018-2019 school year is now closed.
