Ruth Cecilia Day

Ruth Day of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is a 1985 graduate of UK's Gatton College of Business and Economics with a Bachelor of Science in accounting with distinction. While at UK, she worked in the engineering library and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority serving as vice president of finance and of the accounting honor society of Beta Alpha Psi.
She serves on the Dean's Advisory Council of the Gatton College and volunteered in the Women Business Leaders mentoring program. She is a UK Fellow, a UK Alumni Association Life Member, a member of UK Women and Philanthropy and 2012 inductee of the Gatton College Hall of Fame. She served two terms on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors and received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2020.
She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and started her career with Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) in Louisville. She retired after 29 years with Landstar System, Inc., headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, a transportation services corporation where she served in financial management positions. After retirement, Ruth returned to work as chief information officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
A widow, Day spends considerable time in Lexington, sharing her townhouse with nieces and nephews while they earned their graduate degrees from UK. She is a founder, past president and currently treasurer of the Jacksonville UK Alumni Club. She is a member of the Dawson Springs Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Her family is all Big Blue as her parents and three siblings graduated from UK.
