Alveolar Mucosa

The alveolar mucosa lines the alveolar bone of the oral cavity. The connective tissue of the lamina propria (A) is quite dense. Several very low connective tissue papillae are present (B). Connective tissue papillae are characteristically low or absent in alveolar mucosa as well as in that lining the posterior 1/3 of the tongue.
