December 18, 2007
(NO MEETING- This is a consent agenda- If no objections are raised the items below will be considered approved on December 18th @ 5:00pm.)
- COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES: General Rationale: These course changes are requested to reflect the curricular requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences accreditation agency, NAACLS, to incorporate clinical advances in the field, and to complete better describe the content of existing courses.
- Course Change: CSC 528 (To Undergraduate Council 12/19/07)
- CSC 528 Rationale: Both Clinical Laboratory Science undergraduate students and Clinical Sciences graduate students need to take this course. The title implies that non-CLS students should not be admitted to the course. Also the topics quality control, quality assurance, chain of custody and laboratory reporting have been moved from this course to CLS 836 (Management) for CLS undergraduate students and to CSC 625 for CS Graduate students so that these objectives relate better to student’s curriculum (either CLS or Reproductive Lab Science). An evaluation of the course documented that there should be an official lecture component (versus introduction to procedures) in the course, changing the lecture to laboratory ratio from 0:2 to 1:2.
- Course Change: CSC 624 (To Graduate Council 12/19/07)
- CSC 624 Rationale: Significant advances have been made in the cryopreservation of human reproductive tissues since the development of this course, including successful freezing of blastocysts, mature and immature oocytes and testicular and ovarian tissues. In order to remain current these topics must be included in the CSC 624 course. The change in credit hours is the results of both the added objectives and, based on experience, the time required to progress through the course.
- Course Change: CLS 848 (To Registrar 12/19/07)
- CLS 848 Rationale: Need to include objectives for molecular techniques in the curriculum as required by NAACLS, the Clinical Laboratory Sciences accrediting agency.Adding new objectives in molecular techniques to include an introduction to clinically relevant procedures including electrophoresis, northern, Southern and western blotting, ELISA and PCR.
- COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY:
- Course Change: ORT 664 (To Graduate Council 12/19/07)
- ORT 664 Rationale: There have been significant advances in the theory and application of skeletal anchorage devices, which have an impact in decision-making in designing biomechanical force systems in orthodontics. More time is required to address in depth the research in this topic. In addition research in the management of complex orthodontic treatment plans for adult orthodontic treatment has been evolving and needs to be added to course content.
