Dr. Young completed her Ph.D. at Emory University in Fall 2013. Prior to attending Emory, she received a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Transylvania University and completed her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Kentucky with concentrations in health behavior and epidemiology. Her research experiences to date have been diverse, including studies on HCV, HIV, substance abuse, sexual risk behavior, and vaccine acceptance. The settings for this research have been equally varied, including Appalachia, Atlanta, the Philippines, and Nairobi, Kenya. Currently, her research focuses on the application of social network analysis to the behavioral aspects of infectious disease transmission. She is developing studies to evaluate methods underlying network-based epidemiologic research, with the ultimate aim of developing a new and standardized methodology to generate risk networks from data collected about relationships. Dr. Young's desire to teach and mentor students was the most influential factor in her decision to pursue an academic career, and she welcomes opportunities to engage students in her research and mentor students in their independent endeavors.
