Dr. Linda A. Alexander is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Behavior. She received her undergraduate and Masters’ degrees from James Madison University in Virginia, and her doctorate from the University of Virginia. Dr. Alexander also completed a three-year NIH-funded Fellowship in Cardiovascular Epidemiology as a Post-Doctoral Student at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Alexander is a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Tobacco Health Disparities Network (TReND), supported with funds from the American Legacy Foundation, a member of the Executive Committee for the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) Doctoral Competency Project Workgroup, and serves as the college’s liaison to the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE). In addition to leadership positions and administrative roles, she has written numerous articles on health-related topics ranging from children’s asthma and allergies, women and heart disease, and tobacco-related health disparities. Dr. Alexander teaches two core courses for the Department of Health Behavior, Emerging Theories in Health Promotion and Practice and Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health. She currently serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on three tobacco-related community-based research projects and co-editor of two special editions for the journal Addiction.
