Ecological importance of fruits

Fleshy Fruits

Fleshy fruits are eaten by birds or mammals. The seeds may not be digested so they can be spread great distances from the original trees as the animals move or fly.
Dry edible fruits
Dry edible fruits are prized by wildlife. Some types like nuts are stored away for the winter. Uneaten nuts may germinate the next spring to make new trees.

Dry fruits
Dry fruits open to drop out seeds that bounce or are blown away from the original tree. In the case of witchhazel, seeds are shot out of the capsule and may land 15 feet away.
Fruits that fly
Some fruits are designed to blow around in the wind. These seeds have a wing attached to the seeds.
