leaves of aster, Aster

Adult food:  
nectar of: asters, Aster; dogbane, Apocynum; swamp milkweed, Asclepias; thistles, Cirsium; wintercress, Barbarea

Habitat: 
open areas, including: pastures, road edges, vacant lots, fields, open pine woods 

Notes:  
females lay eggs in small batches on underside of leaves, hibernates as third stage caterpillar, males patrol for females, puddles.
