Carlos Rodríguez López, an assistant professor in the UK Department of Horticulture, has received a $500,000 grant from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture to explore epigenetic memory, a molecular mechanism that can change gene expression without affecting the actual sequence of genes. He is investigating how asexual reproduction using dormant cuttings in grapevines affects the plant’s epigenetic memory.
