An Error Occurred While Communicating


Tableau Desktop customers that use SAP HANA as a data source may receive the following error: 



If you are located on campus, make sure you are connected to the University's network. If you are not connected, and are unable to connect, please contact the Information Technology Services (ITS) service desk at (859) 218-4357 for further assistance.

If you are located off campus, the cause is likely due to your operating system not being connected to the University's virtual private network (VPN).

A VPN allows users send and receive data in a secure way across a public network. 



If you already have a VPN connection configured, you will just need to connect to it. If you do not have a VPN connection configured, please follow the steps in the links below to create one for your respective operating system.
